March Sports Recap

March Sports Recap – By Moise Michel

Where do I begin in this very crazy month of March?! First of the greatest player in basketball as of now, Lebron James nearly averaged a triple double for the entire month with 30.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 9.5 assists and 4 triple doubles to boot. As he lead them to 10 wins in 16 games. Despite the Cavs beginning currently seeded as 3rd in the Eastern Conference behind the Toronto Raptors & Boston Celtics, it’s still his conference to lose. Beware of the surging Philadelphia Sixers who are winners 9 straight & capped off the month with a 13-3 record. Out in the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors are plagued by the injury bug that hit their whole starting lineup with Steph Curry, Kay Thompson, Kevin Durant & Draymond Green all missing significant amounts of games in March while falling deeply behind the Houston Rockets in the race for home court. Looks like the Rockets might end the 3-year reign of the Warriors as Western Conference champs; winning two championships in the process.

In the NFL, with free agency being in such a frenzy seeing big names either traded or signing elsewhere. The Los Angeles Rams for one have traded for two great but also problematic cornerbacks in Marcus Peters & Aqib Talib. Signing DT Ndamukong Suh to one-year deal pairing him with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald to form a formidable defensive line that’ll cause opposing offensive line so many fits. Cleveland Browns have made significant moves with trades for QB Tyrod Taylor, WR Jarvis Landry & RB Carlos Hyde; as a plethora of good young cornerbacks with Damarious Randall being the best out of the bunch. Despite their star tackle Joe Thomas retiring after 11 years, the Browns are poised to double or even quadruple the amount of wins they had last season of 0. They also possess 2 of the first 4 picks in the draft as well. So, it looks like they may be able to get either the 3 highly touted QB’s in the draft (Josh Allen, Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen) plus superstar RB Saquon Barkley! Other notable news both QB’s Drew Brees& Kirk Cousins signed fully guaranteed contracts in the amounts of $50m& $84m respectively! Broke is a word that should never be associated with either player!

The MLB is just beginning so much can’t be said about but the fact that it’s gonna be a long summer & 7 months of baseball will be coming our way!

The NCAA Men’s & Women’s March Madness tournaments were both epic! On the men’s side Loyola Ramblers out of Chicago were the underdog darlings with their chaplain Sister Jean who eventual lost to the Michigan Wolverines in the Final Four semifinals. They eventually lost in the finals to Villanova Wildcats led by Coach of the Year Jay Wright, Player of the Year Jalen Brunson & Most Outstanding Player of the Game Donte DiVincenzo who came off the bench to whoop the Wolverines 79-62. The whole tournament the Wildcats manhandled all their opponents in beating each one by double digits. On the women’s side, Notre Dame took the title led by ArikeOgunbowaleand downed the Connecticut Lady Huskies with a game winner in the Final Four Semifinals breaking the Huskies unbeaten streak leading to that game. She came up clutch again in the title game leading the Lady Irish to a 61-58 victory over Mississippi Lady Bulldogs as she drained another game winner, this time from the 3-point line to become MOP of the tournament! All in all, every number 1 seeded team made the Final Four included the Louisville Lady Cardinals in which every game went down to the wire!

March was a great month for sports, hopefully April will be even better!
